Sustainability Showcases
 Spring 2020

The Sustainability Showcase Series

The CSL will be hosting eleven Sustainability Showcases this spring to make connections between faculty research, personal and professional interest and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while broadening the discourse surrounding sustainability. Speakers are invited to give a thirty-minute talk, answer questions and hang around to mingle with attendees.

This year, the theme for the showcase series is: The Time is Now.

According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, “Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities, and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. Weather patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, weather events are becoming more extreme and greenhouse gas emissions are now at their highest levels in history. Without action, the world’s average surface temperature is likely to surpass 3 degrees centigrade this century. The poorest and most vulnerable people are being affected the most” (SDG). For decades we have been talking about climate change but not taking the necessary, immediate actions. There is no more time to waste; the time to act is now.

This year, the Sustainability Showcase Series is highlighting the actions that people are taking in their communities, locally and globally. The series covers a wide range of topics based around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and all support the notion that climate change is becoming a more urgent issue that everyone must pay attention to and act on. Attendees will leave these events feeling inspired and will be able to identify actions in their own community to be an active, educated, and engaged citizen.

Events are on Fridays 12 - 1:30 pm, are held in 233AB HUB and include lunch for RSVP'd guests.

The dates for the showcases are as follows:
Jan 24, 31 | Feb 14, 28 | Mar 20, 27 | Apr 3, 10, 17, 24
LIVE Streaming will be available Every Friday at noon
